This document presents an engineering estimation of the amount of CO2 emissions generated due to transportation of student population at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) during the second semester of the academic year 2012-2013. A survey was applied to 500 students, 10% of the student population that attends school regularly over one semester, regarding their means of transportation. With this information the CO2 emissions were calculated by two methods. The first method is an application of the principle of conservation of mass. The second, is standard methodology to calculate CO2 emissions using emission factors. The two methods are in agreement within 2%. The calculation includes flight emissions due to student travel. Results show that in one semester students at USFQ generate 299 kg of CO2 per person.
