The objective of this study is to analyze the contamination of the environment due to heavy metals in the city of Cuenca using bee products as bioindicators, in parallel the suitability of bee products for domestic consumption and the usefulness of bee products to be used for monitoring the contamination of the environment in which the analyzed samples are located. For this study, samples of pollen, honey and beeswax were taken in nine apiaries located in the urban and peri-urban areas of the city, this in order to determine the concentration of four heavy metals: Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Zinc (Zn) and Copper (Cu) in the referred samples; and as a result, to analyze the concentrations of the heavy metals in reference to their location and for determining possible sources of concurrent contamination, as well as the safety of the products to be consumed in the human diet.
