Abstract

Elvira Espejo is a prominent indigenous artist, cultural manager, and researcher. Born in the Qaqachaka ayllu (Abaroa province, Oruro, Bolivia) her practice is linked to textiles, oral tradition and poetry. She was director of the Museo Nacional de Etnografía y Folklore (MUSEF), in La Paz, from 2013 to 2020. She received the Goethe 2020 medal, an official award of the Federal Republic of Germany for her work and commitment with the cultural exchange. The importance of her work is linked to the dialogue between the practice and knowledge of indigenous communities and the intersection with academia, cultural management and museums. Her work vindicates the epistemologies and practices of native peoples. In this dialogue with Juan Fabbri she talks about her training and working experiences.
