This study involves the design and proposed implementation of an integral and innovative methodology for the development of eco-competencies in business management of microenterprises that operate in unique ecosystems, using a mixed approach of quantitative and qualitative methods. It starts with a theoretical analysis to identify the key variables of sustainable development and business management competencies. The laboratory used was San Cristóbal Island in the Galapagos Archipelago, a province of Ecuador that was declared a World Natural Heritage Site in 1979 and a Biosphere Reserve in 1985, and was included on the list of World Heritage Sites whose integrity is in danger from 2007 to 2010.
