Abstract

Knowledge about the breeding biology of the Green-tailed Trainbearer Lesbia nuna is scanty. In this article, we present new information on its breeding biology obtained from seven nests studied in three localities in Azuay, Ecuador. Most nests were built on Cupressus sp. trees. We observed a clutch size of two eggs in each nest, and an incubation period of 19 days in one nest. After hatching, we followed nestlings"™ growth in one nest until day 25. In addition, we report a case of egg predation by Great Thrush Turdus fuscater. We describe for the first time the incubation period, eggs, shape and composition of the nest and nestling development of L. nuna.
