Interview with María Francisca Elgueta Rosas: Legal Pedagogy in Latin America: Challenges, Transformations and the Future of Legal Education

Abstract

In this interview, Professor María Francisca Elgueta Rosas, Doctor of Education and Director of the University Pedagogy and Didactics of Law Unit at the Universidad de Chile, analyzes the current state of legal education in Latin America. Drawing on more than two decades of research, she addresses the main transformations in legal curricula, the structural challenges that remain unresolved, the impact of generative artificial intelligence on legal training, and the need to rethink assessment models. She also reflects on the role of equity, inclusion, and diversity in law classrooms, and concludes with a message of integrity, passion, and democratic commitment for new generations of law students.
