Diversity Matters: Racism and Discrimination in Ecuador and the World

Abstract

On October 16, 2020, following the multiple demonstrations of the Black Lives Matter movement around the world and on the anniversary of the national strike in Ecuador, the event Diversity Matters: Racism and Discrimination in Ecuador and the World was held. The speakers at this event were Mike Bento (founder of the organization Shut it Down NYC and member of the Colectivo Re-existencias Cimarrunas), Juanita Francis Bone (co-founder of the Colectivo Mujeres de Asfalto and social activist in human rights and collective issues) and Diego Tituaña (Ecuadorian diplomat and World Council on Human Rights). (Ecuadorian diplomat and World Fellow-Yale University 2019). This event analyzed the relevance of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and its impact in the Ecuadorian context, evaluated racism from a feminist perspective, and presented the experiences and challenges of the indigenous community abroad and in Ecuador.
