Abstract

The White-rumped Sandpiper Calidris fuscicollis (Scolopacidae) migrates from the Canadian Arctic to the southern tip of Patagonia, one of the longest animal migrations in the Western Hemisphere. In Ecuador, there are few records in the lowlands, especially in the Amazon region, where there is only one confirmed report (a specimen collected in Limoncocha, Sucumbíos province, in 1975). In this note we present the second documented record of C. fuscicollis in the Ecuadorian Amazon, obtained in Chiru Island, Orellana province, on the banks of the Napo River. In addition, we briefly discuss the records of this species in Ecuador until 2023.
