españolAbstract
We present some notes on the nesting process, nestling development and juvenile (less than 1 year old) plumage of Short-tailed Hawk Buteo brachyurus brachyurus in a small plantation of Eucalyptus sp., on the eastern, peri-urban slopes of Piñas, El Oro province, southwest Ecuador. Observations were made in December 2019, March 2020 and January-February 2021. We report the use of a bromeliad (Tillandsia sp.; Bromeliaceae) as nesting substrate, and report prey items provisioned to a single nestling. Despite being a widespread species, this is the first breeding report of this hawk in Ecuador.
