Abstract

Nuestra Patrona de la Cantera project was carried out in Quito with a group of sex workers, a vulnerable sector, traditionally marginalized, not only due to their social status and work activity, but also due to biopolitical and sociocultural prejudices associated with sexuality, morality , religiosity and legality. It was a proposal that I presented in 2008, at the VI International Meeting of Urban Art «al Zur-ich». It consisted of creating the representation of a Virgin of the sex workers. It arose from the idea of "‹"‹putting two opposing conditions and themes into dialogue: virginity and sex work, and thinking about the possibility of producing an image that contained the two components beyond the paradox.
