Abstract

Kehinde Wiley, an Afro-descendant and homosexual artist, through his renowned portraits dignifies blackness within the racist and discriminatory American society.  Through his artworks, characterized by the use of naturalistic symbolisms, he explores the masculinities and femininities' construction, and has become a visual artist who actively contests racism. His Art challenges the conventions and stereotypes of Western Art, especially religious, political and historical portraiture within the visual human representation. Critical, also, of the null or discriminatory representation, identified as the over-eroticization, objectification and commodification of Coloured People bodies, and the way in which they are aesthetically perceived within American Culture.
