The Ecuadorian Roldosista Party: Axiom of Populism in Ecuador
Main Article Content
Abstract
It was April 24, 1982 when Abdalá Bucaram Ortiz led a pilgrimage to the tomb of former President Jaime Roídos Aguilera and his wife Martha to inaugurate, within the framework of a National Convention, the Partido Roldosista Ecuatoriano (PRE). It was a split of the Partido Pueblo, Cambio y Democracia, the grouping founded in 1981 by Roídos[1], to move away from the line of his political uncle Assad Bucaram, leader of the Concentración de Fuerzas Populares* (Concentration of Popular Forces). On that day, also, the PRE declared itself in opposition to the government of Oswaldo Hurtado Larrea.
