Abstract

We described the first record of Yellow Caracara Milvago chimachima from Zamora Chinchipe province, southeast Ecuador. This record extends the currently known distribution range in Ecuador 100 km southwards, and increases its upper elevation limit to 800 m a.s.l. Further, it improves our knowledge about bird species occurring in Zamora Chinchipe province, and sums up to other recent records of savanna species that seem to be expanding their distribution in the Ecuadorian Amazon following forest habitat conversion into pastureland.
