The good, the bad, the ugly, and the desireable in the (s)election of members of the Inter-American Human Rights Commission and Court

The processes of electing members of the Inter-American Commission and Court on Human Rights are one of the issues that, despite their importance, have generated less analysis and debate when it comes to strengthening the inter-American human rights system. For that reason, this article seeks to fill some of these gaps by describing and analyzing these processes through the identification of what is good, bad and ugly. Once that has been established, and seeking to generate debate, the article makes a proposal regarding how it would be desirable to develop these election processes, not only before the General Assembly of the Organization of American States, but also from the national processes that should be followed for this purpose.Downloads
