Could Rafael Correa have been beaten?

Abstract

The overwhelming victories of the current President of the Republic at the polls are based on the great vacuum left by the old political party system that ruled our country. Rafael Correa, if we want to see it that way, found himself in the right moment and at the right time to reach the presidency. His charisma, infinite work capacity and the great amount of resources he has had at his disposal, added to the subsidies provided by a paternalistic State and his skillful work team -which has managed to sustain with publicity the image of the President- above all Ecuadorians, with his own resources, are the tools with which the President has managed to maintain high levels of popularity and trust. This was the scenario in which the Ecuadorian opposition had to confront him in the last democratic struggle.
