This publication collects topics from the XIII International Congress "Periodismo en Debate" held from November 6 to 11, 2023. The event was called: "The new frontiers of journalism: Artificial intelligence, social networks, Storytelling, monetization and human mobility." This congress was a space for discussion to reflect on how the way of doing journalism is changing. In the era of misinformation and artificial intelligence, journalism is more necessary than ever to understand the phenomena that transform society. In a year of political uncertainty for Ecuador, questions about this new era in journalism were discussed at the event.

In this congress, the adaptation of journalism in digital media was analyzed, as well as the new direction to narrate the events and the need to innovate in the journalistic exercise in the midst of an emerging global situation with the covid-19 pandemic still ongoing.

This congress responded to the need to innovate in journalism in the midst of an emerging global situation. The event was a space for discussion to learn about the experiences of coverage during the pandemic in Ecuador and the rest of America. In addition, sustainable examples of media entrepreneurship that have emerged and faced deep crises in the traditional media were shown, as well as their approach to disinformation and the infodemic in these times.

This publication collects papers and proposals related to the central theme of the IX International Congress "Periodismo en Debate" that took place in three days from 14th to 16th, 2019. The central theme of the event was: "21st CENTURY JOURNAL FORMATS in defense of human rights".


This congress responds to the need to develop new formats for journalism and the vindication of traditional formats such as chronicles and long reports in the coverage of issues related to human rights such as domestic violence, femicide, xenophobia, migration, sexual abuse, among others. This fourth edition collects in a special way journalistic researches in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic that the whole world is experiencing.

This publication includes papers and proposals related to the central theme of the VIII International Congress "Periodismo en Debate" that took place in three days from November 15 to 17, 2018. The main theme of the event was: "Post Data: Journalism in times of fake news, infoxication, uncertainty and violence", with a special emphasis on the fight against "fake news" and border journalism.


This congress responded to the need to renew public confidence in the data published in the exercise of journalism in general, in particular in data journalism, scientific journalism, and in the promotion of professional practices such as data journalism and the "fact-checking". After the drama of the kidnapping and murder of El Comercio journalistic team, we organized a day of reflection on the challenges and difficulties of border journalism, a topic that is incorporated in this third edition of #PerDebate.
