Resumen

El efecto de los indicadores nacionales sobre el Stock Migratorio Internacional se estudia para determinar conclusiones relevantes para la política y mejorar la gestión de los flujos migratorios. A través de un modelo transversal estimado mediante mínimos cuadrados ordinarios con datos a nivel de país de 2015, se encuentra que un mayor PIB, menos restricciones a la creación de empresas, mayor diversidad cultural y menos corrupción están asociados a una mayor migración. La democracia es una covariable significativa, pero está negativamente correlacionada con los flujos migratorios, lo cual es contraintuitivo. A través de formas funcionales más flexibles, se descubre que los países ubicados en Oriente Medio y África del Norte, donde se encuentran la mayoría de los países ricos exportadores de petróleo, tienen flujos migratorios más altos pero puntuaciones más bajas en democracia, lo que podría estar influyendo en el signo del efecto democrático. Al analizar la democracia en el hemisferio occidental, se encuentra que el efecto es positivo para los países relativamente más ricos en términos de PIB.
