Abstract

The book reveals that the death of Javier Ortega, Paúl Rivas and Efraín Segarra, of El Comercio newspaper, was triggered by the operations the police and military carried out in the border areas where the journalistic team was transported by dissidents of the Oliver Sinisterra Front. After consulting more than 900 sources, the investigation concludes that despite the collaborative work that the governments of Colombia and Ecuador had undertaken in their fight against the FARC dissidents, a communication failure between the two intelligences resulted in the death of the three journalists. The Ecuadorian Prosecutor's Office, aligned with the speech of Lenín Moreno"™s government, did not gave clear answers until the position at the head of lawyer Diana Salazar. The investigations with Salazar took a turn and now this case is investigated as a possible state crime. This article explains how that process of journalistic research was in the midst of pain, fear and uncertainty.
