Abstract

Currently, the Ecuadorian population has lived under an unprecedented polarization of media, which, in effect, is characterized by a marked class struggle inherited since the Colonial period in the Americas. Thus, we live in a new digital era of information and a decay of traditional media where fake news, media illiteracy, and information bias are the "bread and butter" for public opinion. Consequently, this article undresses the relation between the polarization of media and the establishment analyzing the influence of opposing political tendencies in the decade from 2007 to 2017. Furthermore, a qualitative study methodology was applied based on field expert interviews and an analysis on literature and statistics on the theme. The results revealed a clear connection between the polarization of media and the race for power, moreover it highlights a necessity of media literacy in Ecuador.
