Estudio comparativo de los resultados obtenidos sobre asimetrías mandibulares mediante el Análisis Frontal de Ricketts y el Análisis Cefalométrico de Tatis

Abstract

Mandibular asymmetries are a complicated problem to treat that requires a thorough study to establish the cause, location and extent of the disease. This research proposes the use of Tatis analysis made on the panoramic radiograph as a valuable tool to diagnose mandibular asymmetries, in a simple, efficient and economical manner, with lower biological cost and without using other radiographs. The aim of the study was to compare the diagnosis on mandibular asymmetry obtained from Ricketts frontal analysis on posteroanterior radiographS and Tatis analysis on panoramic radiographs. 50 digital panoramic and posteroanterior radiographs of a same patient, were selected from the records belonged to patients of the Cabezas Dental Clinic located in Quito city. Panoramic radiographs were studied by Tatis analysis through Orthokinetor Plus software version 1.0.228, whereas, posteroanterior radiographs were interpreted by Ricketts frontal analysis through Dolphin software version 9.0.00.19. The values were tabulated and analyzed statistically. The diagnosis obtained with Tatis and Ricketts analysis was similar, there was a very good agreement, about 98% for indicating the presence or absence of mandibular asymmetries, while a moderate agreement, about 74%, was found for determining the direction of mandibular deviation.
