Abstract
In Ecuador, it has been observed that heritage built with rammed earth has suffered advanced deterioration due to the passage of time and environmental, biotic, intrinsic, and anthropological factors. Their preservation and conservation are important due to its high cultural and historical value. The objective of this research is to determine rehabilitation and reinforcement methods applicable to this type of structure, aimed at recovering the structural and mechanical characteristics of earthen elements.
A bibliographic review was carried out to determine the optimal mixture for rammed earth mixture, as well as the types of reinforcement that could be applied, considering both natural materials (bamboo) and synthetic materials (polypropylene mesh). Based on international testing standards for earthen walls, tests were conducted to verify the resistance and effectiveness of the proposed techniques. It was determined that the reinforcement method using a guadua cane framework has allowed for the recovery and increase of approximately 5 % in tensile strength and 61 % in compressive strength.
