Abstract

The series As Above So Below engages with the overwhelming yet seductive experience of confronting offshore oil extraction platforms. Through a selection of photographs, videos, and installations, it explores how human and more-than-human bodies are configured within the field of tension between technology and its materialities. The dimensions, boundaries, and dualisms between human and more-than-human, subject and object, material and immaterial seem to collapse. What does this technological desire—one that enables, from thousands of kilometers above in the stratosphere, the drilling of marine depths never before explored—reveal about our bodies?
