Abstract

This article presents the testimony of one of its authors in the form of an interview. It also documents the evolution of the digital outlet El Ferrodiario from its beginnings to its closure in 2024. The case presented is analyzed within the framework of the debates on press freedom, censorship, and violence. This work seeks to raise awareness of the importance of ensuring journalists’ well-being to preserve press freedom.

Lcda. Andreina Martínez , University of Guayaquil

Andreina Martínez holds a degree in Social Communication Sciences and has teaching experience. She has worked as a Language and Literature and Social Studies teacher in primary education, distinguished by her creative and interdisciplinary approach. She has developed pedagogical activities and projects that integrate communication skills, critical thinking, and artistic expression.

Mgtr. Charly Castillo , Universidad Laica Vicente Rocafuerte de Guayquil

Charly Castillo is an Ecuadorian journalist specializing in investigative reporting and coverage of community issues. He is the founder of El Ferrodiario, an independent digital media outlet with a local focus, dedicated to highlighting the problems of Durán, Guayas. He holds a degree in Journalism from the Vicente Rocafuerte Lay University of Guayaquil and a master's degree in Strategic Communication from the State University of Milagro.
